We can attribute weak parties in part to our own dogooding. McCain-Feingold outlawed soft money and in its place sprang up dark money. The center of power is now on the dark money side, sometimes lovingly referred to as the VLWC (vast left-wing conspiracy).

An acquaintance of mine was one of his committee chiefs of staff and she says there’s no one more decent than Biden, but he had an absolutely unmatched ego.

A high level Dem strategist tells me: "Biden has put Dems in a no-win position. They don’t want to go out there and tank him, but no one can credibly tell their constituents that he should be president for another 4 1/2 years."

Pop stars are great for election week GOTV rallies. Not for much more than that, unfortunately. Your opinion is correct based on my 20 years of campaign experience, so I’d upgrade it from opinion to truth.

I've been in this business a long time and find that when people go into "shut up shut up shut up" mode, it's rarely because they think silencing people will actually achieve the stated goal. It's usually because they don't have a good rebuttal and so they blame the person bringing up the points.

I watched it in real time and said on here in real time that he needed some L-dopa stat. It was a horrifying display of confusion and aphasia for 90 minutes and I am not imagining that. I adore Joe Biden and it is very upsetting, but I refuse to be gaslit about what I saw with my own eyes.

I appreciate the context. Links are good. Also, the number of page views the NYT gets from Twitter is minuscule. The number of clicks they get from Bsky is a tiny fraction of minuscule. It just doesn’t matter. There are far more important things to obsess about.

Telomeres down to zero. This is not a figment of Arthur Sulzberger’s imagination. The extreme denial and militancy of some democrats is appalling. This is a five alarm fire and y’all think *I* want Trump to win.

Republicans didn't do this shit, Joe Biden did this shit. He should have complete a week-long whistle stop tour to undo the damage but he has yet to hold a press conference. What is the press supposed to do? Joe Biden has a PR department and it ain't the New York Times.

Of course the problem was that then-Rep. Udall knew little about the Supreme Court and figured a Democrat from his state would automatically be praiseworthy in his US Senate primary versus my high school history teacher who knew better. Oops.

Ahh yess, Whizzer White, everyone’s favorite football justice and anti-abortion extremist whose hate for teh gay was only matched by Antonin Scalia and Sam Alito. My old boss Mark Udall once had to walk back a claim that Whizzer White (D-Colo) was his favorite SCOTUS justice.

One debate where he demonstrated conclusively that he is not capable of doing the job for four more years. I care more about the country than what the media thinks. Sorry, I’m patriotic like that. Happy fourth.

He very well might not be fit to be president right now, but evidence suggests otherwise and the election is in four months and his successor would take office in six months so who cares?

I think the best of bad options is Biden drops, Kamala stays and keeps the money and uses the money to polish her fairly unknown public image as a low-profile vice president while bringing in a well-known VP nominee from a swing state. Biden is losing and it’s getting worse, not better.

The constitution does say what happens. The vice president becomes president, and then the president nominates a vice president, and then the Republican House and (almost certainly) Republican senate will confirm NO ONE, and Mike Johnson will be second in the line of succession.

I’m not a leftist. I love Joe Biden. I do not believe he has the capacity to do the job for four more years even if he wins re-election which right now seems doubtful. The actuarial tables say he’d almost certainly die in office, sparking a constitutional crisis. I’d cheerfully support VP Harris.

Much more humility is necessary in this moment. Every self-styled political expert should stop insisting they know what’s going to happen in every possible hypothetical. This is uncharted territory.

I don’t have any certainty about anything except that I’m damned sick and tired of people on any side of this debate expressing certainty about who will definitely win or lose. Nobody knows a thing and everybody should be asking questions, not beating people over the head with fake confidence.

Not really I think. The court said Trump couldn’t be prosecuted for seizing their billions, but a court could definitely give them their billions back. With a few extra billion for damages.

It’s sweet that you think this decision applies to democrats because norms say it should. Only Trump gets to be king. Only Trump gets immunity. A 2/3 Republican majority on the Supreme Court means the law only benefits Republicans.

With its immunity decision, SCOTUS took a sledgehammer to the constitutional foundation of American democracy and eviscerated the rule of law. It will go down in the annals of wretched decisions alongside Dred Scott, Plessy, and Korematsu.

Sorry, you don’t get to blame liberals. Liberals didn’t write that decision. Liberals wrote the dissent, which the conservative majority did not attempt to refute.

Of course not? That’s an awful lot of confidence with no masks in reality. The Republican Supreme Court is making this up as it goes along. The law is what they say the law is, not what you or the constitution say it is.

Unless it’s a Democrat in the White House. You know none of this new power is reserved for use by a Democrat. Democrats have no core functions. Only Trump gets to be king.

Sadly, you don’t get to decide what constitutes a core function of the executive. Only the judiciary can do that.
