On July 4th, 1826 John Adams & Thomas Jefferson, two members of the Committee of Five, authors of the Declaration of Independence, died 50 years to the day after its adaptation in 1776.
I found their dual obituary randomly folded deep inside my copy of book published in 1757. (1/2)

Living under authoritarian regimes is both relatively boring and normal AND incredibly corrosive to the human soul. These things can absolutely co-exist. This is why everyone needs to resist authoritarians, even people who privately assume they’ll be just fine.

Benjamin Franklin’s epitaph in my 1813 copy of the Memoirs of David Rittenhouse by William Barton.

This includes a good graphic about why an adequate waterpack is not enough. When and how fast the snow melts are critical factors. Here in Washington, the snowpack is poor. Yay! Record rainfall this week, the end of May. Did it add to the snowpack or just wash it away
