The allegations about Neil Gaiman are disturbing and disappointing and I just wanted to say that I'm paying attention. At the very least, I think that industry events processing this information should prioritize the safety and comfort of young female attendees, presenters, panelists and volunteers.

Hello social medias...
You may not be aware a major Cat 5 hurricane struck an area that normally doesn't get them. The eye passed directly over Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
The devastation is tremendous. The need is great.

Sigh. If you type "suggestive bird names" for a joke Google AI suggests things like titmouse, goatsucker, and... the southern fuckbird... which definitely is not a thing.

Live funereal piano music in the Portland airport. Dirges. Kid is either oblivious to context or keenly attuned to passenger emotions.

Some epic hikes in Oregon and Washington the past two days: Cape Disappointment, Saddle Mountain, Cape Falcon, Cape Mears. Very happy with my level of fitness, as I blew through all but the last, Saddle, where I was too tired to get more than three-fourths of the way up.

Really something that the three original Southern Reach novels have sold well over a million copies in the U.S. alone--and they keep selling year after year. Thanks for loving them so much.

If all your first readers for a novel draft are other writers... um, no.

If she had drawn a line across my face with her finger, it would have burned the flesh away and I would not have cared. I can only tell you how I felt, not defend it. Nothing about what I am about to tell you could bear being defended anyway. - novel in progress

The bound, more finished advance reader copy and the one that was basically what I turned in originally. Lots of changes since then.

It is worth noting you can get an MFA and be a shitty writer and also not realize you are a shitty writer because you got an MFA. As ever, yoo, you can be a good writer every which way. MFA, no MFA, college, no college, formal instruction, no formal instruction. Etc et al yada yada.

I have found in some contexts MFAs to be extremely insular and snooty... while often not being very good at writing. As if told the MFA conferred magical powers. Not to generalize, but, yeah that's all kinds of wrong.

Something that's perhaps worth considering in the "does throwing soup at paintings/ paint on Stonehenge help change minds about climate change action" discourse is that this question has been studied and we have data.
