My favorite part of the West Wing fantasies about replacing Biden is the idea that there wouldn’t immediately be a new fatal flaw with whoever replaced him.
Isn’t THE WEST WING textually opposed to the concept of replacing either POTUS or VEEP as nominees? Bartlett suffers no consequences for hiding his MS, and despite polls saying a change in VP might be smart, they stick to the original guy.
Why focus on this when we can easily pressure him right now to do something big to get us back. I'd fly a Biden flag if he capped CEO pay or tied homeownership to an SSN with increasing taxes on every additional unit.
And you know whoever got picked would get the same treatment in the press, and the same dumbshits currently carrying fascist water would be right back here yelling how we picked the wrong the one.

The most optimistic take about this problem that I have heard is that the short window until election day will somehow make it hard for the Trump campaign to discover and/or exploit flaws in whatever replacement is selected. That sounds to me like next level delusion.

TBH, most of the commentary I’ve seen is pretty circumspect about the risk of a replacement at this late stage. They just prefer that risk to the stick with Biden risk.
I've been more disgusted by people on the left this week than by the Reich wingers. Part of it is the billionaire owned press pushing the story, but the rest is easily influenced people taking that bogus narrative into every damn site I read.
I'm waiting for some smart-ass guest to just come out & ask them to tell us who THEY want to see running against Trump & spare us all the angst & drain of pretending to choose among the options. In fact, do that for every election & save $ billions. Oh, I forgot. Ad money.
They need to watch some of Kamala Harris' speeches. I've been thinking about trying to find a couple of those myself. I'm convinced they would unload on her if she's elevated. Not all, of course. She'll probably always have Joy Ann Reid (just guessing).
Actually think that the media would feel they finally created a hero with the replacement candidate. The narrative would change to defense vs the offense they are playing for Trump against Biden. It’s the narrative that matters to the media, it’s a fresher story with them in the center
I'm concerned that we might be screwed no matter what. Biden's job was to convince people that he's fit to lead for 4 more years. We're at a point now where people are questioning whether he's even fit to lead right now. I get that a lot of those people have an agenda, but it's not all of them.

Donors, members of his own party, and even voters themselves wanting any other candidate than Biden should be taken seriously. I wouldn't dismiss them.

Maybe that has to be the new Democratic strategy: get someone in at the last minute so the rightwing smear machine doesn't get a prolonged chance to destroy them. See Hillary, Biden, etc.
I've had multiple conversations both online and IRL with people who said Harris has little name recognition and that once people got to know her she'd be way more popular than Biden. It's just actively ignoring reality while hoping for a third-act plot twist with these people.
There is no flaw as fatal as being completely unable to articulate how you are better than an open fascist on national tv. Harris can certainly do that. Biden is going to get worse, something worse than that debate performance is likely for him before the election if he continues.
Do you really think it's still a fantasy? I thought that up until a day or two ago but it's seeming more and more possible after the debate and subsequent national freakout
We are just desperate to beat Trump and sick of being misled about how Biden is actually doing. The President is in rough shape. Can't we get a prosecutor to help us beat the felon? Can't a woman make the case for abortion?
Of course they will try to exploit (fabricate?) any fatal flaw of a new candidate, but hopefully the rocket fuel that could get injected into the Dem party could overcome that attempted ratfucking.
I don't have a strong feeling about the replacement idea, but I think the gamble is that whatever new attack they come up with Harris (most likely) wouldn't resonate the way Biden's age apparently has with voters.
I also worry that whoever they pick WILL have some skeleton in his/her closet no one knows about (no matter how minor), which will be revealed at the most inopportune time during the campaign. We know what attacks they have in store against Biden, but who knows what lies they'll tell about the new 1
I can't imagine being that high where the GOP dominated states would just roll over and allow the primaries to be redone or not throw up every roadblock imaginable. Or that the Dems would agree on one person in the time remaining.
