Also this is mindset is extremely dangerous for POC and GLBTQ authors. Because they're already vulnerable, so people can easily say oh "black writer wrote horror story? We must yank it from shelves because it's horror, horror is only written by immoral people."

People really need to give up the idea there's any connection between morality and art. Immoral people are capable of creating moving, empathetic art. Nothing about writing dark and violent art implies the artist is themselves dark and violent. Etc. There just isn't a connection.

100% agree with this! People give Miyazaki a ton of crap for being a "grumpy grandpa", & it's hugely disrespectful & ignorant. He's a good guy with excellent politics who happens to have some rough edges & there's nothing wrong with that. I'll take a grumpy leftist over a polite centrist any time.

One HUGE skill you need to develop as a comic artist is learning to interpret what writers want. Narrative art & written stories are very different languages & writers aren't always very visual people. Your job will be figuring out how to draw the comic in a way that makes sense in both languages.
