There is a guy who goes around recording himself cutting the grass of lawns in complete disrepair for free. He films it and play at x4 speed or so. It’s very soothing too

And then in the afternoon we made our way to the Societé des Amis de Saint Jacques de Compostelle (the oldest in France of its kind, founded 1950) where a very nice lady provided us with the very famous Credencial, essential for every pilgrim to record their route. #UACamino2024

It was a complete day today for us at #uacamino2024. We went to Saint Chapelle, the church build by Louis IX to host Jesus’ crown of thorns. Then we went to see the tower of St. Jacques de la Boucherie, where pilgrims coming from Paris started their pilgrimage to Santiago

Near the end of Geoffrey Parker's book on Charles V, and I just found out that the Emperor died not of gout, or the profound arthritis he had in all of his joints (he also had extraordinarily painful hemorrhoids). No. He died of malaria!

Thinking about that UCLA student the police unmasked to humiliate her. She has a small smile for them. She looks so luminous, so defiant. She knows she is on the right side of history. I feel very proud of her. They achieved the polar opposite of what they intended.

Please encourage your grad students to take courses in other disciplines and in other historical regions. If they do not expand their sights when they are in grad school, they really won’t do it later. They will thank you for it. I’m thinking about Americanists in particular.

I interact with smart, curious, and intellectually ambitious students on a daily basis. Unlike older adults, many of them are not morally bankrupt yet, and they are willing to pursue those values. Where adults have given up, they are pointing the way. Listen to them.
