That's an interesting question. I've always considered that it is in the National Park area (in which case, no dogs) but I just went to double check on DOC and it's unclear whether it is or not. It's an absolutely stunning redoubt though so I hope you get to visit, either with or without your kuri!

The Waipā and Puniū are my heartbeat awa but goddamn it- flying into Kirikiriroa and seeing the mighty Waikato snaking across the whenua below- it gets me every single time. For the next few days I get to listen to the awa as I go to sleep and wake up beside it. Absolute joy!

Ideology trumps evidence! When faced with the evidence base (including research from a previous Nat govt), the Minister dismisses it (and also hadn't read it) or says it's just part of a "range of views", and then reverts to ideology. Wtf?

By the 70s they were starting to be less a thing although in the late 70s young women I knew in Naenae were still sewing baby clothes etc for their glory boxes. Mind you, in Naenae in that era- people started having babies early on. I was considered ancient to have my first just after my 20th b-day

Yes, that's it- hope chests!!! I was trying to remember that phrase. Hope chests is much better phrase than glory box (which has a slightly hysterical and kind of desperate ring to it)
