I was a grown ass adult when I found my sister’s husband bleeding out from a GSW and I froze when I realized it was him. There was nothing I could have done to stop him from dying and yet I still have irrational guilt. But yeah let’s put little kids through this.

Urgh. Our kids learn emergency first aid in the UK too, of course, but it's targetted at responses to "a toddler is choking on a sweet", "your friend has fallen out of a tree" or "Grandad's had a heart attack" not "someone is trying to murder your teacher". I'm so sorry you are put through this.

Back when I was still a library director, I was made to attend one of these. The phrase "I have a masters in library science and a masters in education so I can learn trauma care" was muttered repeatedly while I learned how to stop bleeding from gun wounds. I was so angry.
