Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

Yes! Proof! I’ve been complaining about all the black, then white, then gray and silver cars for years. And when I thought we’d finally get back to real colors, what do they come up with? Mud (at least that’s what it’s called in German and that’s what it looks like). It’s depressing!

I agree. And this: “I’m not letting one 90-minute debate wipe out three and a half years of work,” is dumb. No one can take away his first term. He’ll go down in history as a successful president in a very difficult pol. environ. That doesn’t mean he gets to skip go and collect a 2nd term.

"If the media would just stop--" The media will not stop. Nor will his opponents, nor will the doubts of the 72% of voters who express them in polls, nor will the aging process. Some of it is unfair, some is not, but it's all real. And anyone who supported him in 2020 knew this crisis might come.

I think Biden and his team need to start asking themselves what four months of every single public appearance being treated as a competency test is going to feel like, and how that ends. Because I don't see it stopping--there's no magic moment on the horizon that simply puts the whole thing to rest.

I live abroad and have done phone banking for Democrats Abroad and will do it again this year for whoever the candidate is. I’m on board. But I’m not convinced anymore that our best shot is with Biden and there is so much at stake. It’s not about him. It’s about democracy itself.

I don’t think anyone on the left is complaining about the overall job done by this administration. It’s not about the last 4 years, it’s about the next. Biden doesn’t deserve to be POTUS for 4 more years just because he did well in his first term. He deserves it if he wins re-election. Can he?

Swimming in muck is exactly right. It’s all exhausting, to be honest. I find it troubling the way the media handles politics, but also troubling that some people seem to be suggesting the media shouldn’t be covering Biden’s decline (or not as much or only if they also say x about Trump).

Not sure it’s fair to conflate people who may not be media-savvy to low-info voters. Those are two different things. We hear all the time about the effects of media-spin, so it’s not irrational to think one might be able to use that to their advantage, even if the reality is different.

This is so true. But also… The GOP is going to challenge everything in this election, Biden or no Biden. Also: Biden was asked Thursday in an interview to talk about his accomplishments (super softball) and rambled on about the Supreme Court and Trump. We cannot pretend not to see what we see.

It’s the same over here in Germany - too little coverage of liberal protest, but also - young people glue themselves to highways and they’re “climate terrorists.” Farmers build tractor-blockades on the highways and they’re “fighting for their livelihood.” 🙄

I tend to have rose-colored glasses, but this was a disaster that even grading on a scale won’t fix. Will Americans forget by Nov.? Maybe. But there’s a ton at stake and we cannot risk a loss. Anyone who steps in can promise to continue Biden’s agenda and win back the people who think he’s too old.

My WhatsApp was burning with friends and acquaintances in political groups during and after the debate, many of them wanting Biden to step down. So while the press might be amplifying those calls, it’s not like they’re creating something out of the thin blue air.

I actually don’t find that interesting. The percentage of Americans who know every name on the list is probably shockingly low. So this is the “I want the Dem no matter what”-group, plus a bonus for the guy I’ve heard of (Biden), vs. I’m willing to vote for Trump.

Yeah, I agree, the calculation doesn’t work either way. I really have a hard time believing that the acceptance of gay marriage has dropped that much among Rs in two years. Even both things combined still seems unlikely. Now, if we were talking about trans-hatred, I might believe it.
