Advice for scholars: next time you lecture on Kant and revolutions at “Downing” (Darwin) College Cambridge, make sure your hair is neatly tied and that you’re not blonde. Or else your research impact will be on the Spectator libido section.

Now that OJ is gone, her NDA is no longer valid. This is her personal account of OJ’s lawyers paying off USC to keep mum and why that spurred her to change her major in college.

I should have known - way back when we lived in Switzerland, I bought Uggs on eBay and the seller put the original price on the customs forms. Could have just bought new ones in CH!

Ok, a few people have reminded me that it’s duties + tax. And I checked on this calculator and it is 22% tax.

Well, it is to do with Brexit cause we didn’t used to get charged duties! I hardly ever order from UK now and my mum rarely sends packages. Which is a shame cause it was always lovely for the kids to get a wee treat.

Ah, you are right. I forgot that the taxes were separate from duties. I looked it up. It’s 22%.

It’s so random at the moment. Sometimes I get charged. Sometimes I don’t. M&S sends out with customs charges included in the price but I still got charged by FedEx so will have to claim back from M&S. The M&S customer service guy said it happens quite a lot.

Don’t know who is in Würzburg but couple of police officers were standing at the entrance of the conference hotel, and a big BMW with tinted windows and Munich plates drew up. I’m guessing maybe a Bavarian minister. There was a conference on psychotherapy so maybe health minister?

Also LOL that I get taxed on the £3 for packing paper and a postcard that’s literally marketing material. Thanks Brexit.

Ah. Just noticed that the seller put the original price of the goods on the box - they had a 30% off sale so I only paid £107.
But even 19% of £162 is still a lot less than €58!

Thanks. I guessed that the €6 was charges. I checked the box and the company put the actual price of the goods (£162) even though I wasn’t charged that - I paid £107 because there was 30% off. If I’d known, I’d have had it sent to my mum!

Can anyone explain why I paid €58,08 customs duties for an order costing £107? It was sent tax free but German tax is only 19% so why was it so expensive?
