Something big we haven’t fully processed or reflected on is the massive amount of time and effort people around NZ have contributed towards long term curriculum changes, science system changes and local govt reforms, amongst others.
All rejected by current govt. The deep engagement meant nothing.
Sadly National is not entirely alone when it comes to ignoring deliberated reports from academics & experts in the field.

If nothing else, it has caused a huge problem with trust and democratic participation. Why would anyone—teachers, scientists, etc—put in all those extra hours again in future when their work can be thrown out so easily?
So true. Have also witnessed this with consultations on climate adaptation and retreat (notably the considerable time and effort put in by Māori researchers, planners and kaitiaki).
