Mine don't slide. Or maybe I need to loosen those screws first. I suspect you're right about them being fixings for hanging hooks tho. The trouble is I've got a row of 3 and it feels like they're screwed together but I can't see the screws. Maybe under the covers if I can loosen the outer case

They all seem to be fastened together and I can't see how. I don't know if it's glue or something

Trying to unmount a wall cabinet in a kitchen. No matter how much I turn these screws they don't seem to come loose. Has anyone seen any covers like this before, and is there anything special in need to do to get them off?

They're measuring templates. A huge part of play is estimating distances before you choose them. It is very hard!

It just struck me as a hugely artificial argument. Video games have always had a compulsive element that's partly why they're fun. & designing in addiction has been part of the process since coin op days

Really don't think there's much in this argument. I grew up at time of much greater hope for young people, much less supervision and much more accessible green space ... and my friends & I still spent hours in front of screens because it was FUN www.theguardian.com/games/articl...

This is a subtweet about Frankenstein because I don't want to be a dick, but I also want some facts out there. 1. Most novels at the time were anonymous. We can't make definite judgements about why Mary Shelley's name wasn't on it. It was common practice. The novel was barely respectable. 1/?

It's Elon Musk tanking twitter. Twitter was always the best social channel for promo bc it wasn't algorithm-ised, so you had a chance to catch the zeitgeist however small you were.

This. I got all my early commissions on Twitter. ALL of them. Among all the good things Space Karen so thoughtlessly destroyed, the careers of a million aspiring artists is perhaps the most egregious.

Sudden thought: a lot of films before the mid 70s now feel absolutely glacial in terms of pace, and I'm wondering how much Star Wars is the pivot on which modern movie pacing turned.

Great point. We've become so used to cronyism that appointments based on skills or experience seem bizarre. Not everyone in Starmer's cabinet is even an ally of his.

I would love journalists and academics to doorstep people in Reform's new constituencies and find out things like what age and income brackets they belong to, why they voted reform and what they expected their new MPs to do for them. So that we can begin to fight back against this corrosive force.

Yeah, I'm perversely unhappy at the political situation this morning and this is the reason why. It feels like politics as usual is just papering over chasms.

The Tories are out, deservedly so, but 14 years of Tory rule have caused incalculable harm. We can feel relief, but Labour wonβt be able to fix all these problems & the Tory media will undermine them. Itβs also clear that the far right is rising & will be dusting off their Bannon/Trump playbook.

I just don't really know how to process this. Perhaps it's tiredness, but it feels oddly catastrophic, a mammoth in the polling booth that no politicians want to talk about this morning. Britain is a country in terrible distress.

Please as I am to be rid of the Tories, the more I dig into the stats this morning, the more sobering they are. A hard-right party got a huge vote share. Starmer got fewer votes than Corbyn. LibDems and Labour barely changed their vote share & benefitted from a split on the right. This is not good.

Reform's vote share is also a sobering slap to folk like me who support PR. That would have resulted in a hard right bloc that could challenge Labour. Gobsmacked to see LibDem Daisy Cooper bigging up PR on the BBC last night when her party - for once - actually benefitted from FPTP

The surge in the reform vote is terrifying. Suggests the tories were correct in thinking that quasi-fascism is a vote winner, that they'll now gleefully sprint down that path & that - contrary to popular wisdom - it'll pay electoral dividends.
