I'm happy that the paper about my class on Historically Excluded and Underrepresented Scientists is now published. When I get back from Alaska, I will put the syllabus and other materials on my website and link to that here on Bluesky. In the meantime, enjoy! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Yes. My partner wanted to watch and ugh. I understand why he wanted to but I also need to not yell at the tv for the next 6 months

I agree. I’ve never liked my body in the present, because…everything. But occasionally, I’ll see a younger picture of me and be in awe of how happy and beautiful I was despite that same feeling then. Im trying integrate that with my attempt that age gracefully, wrinkles, rolls, grays and all

As a biologist that works on cholesterol and aging, I should know better, but I am filled with too much cholesterol than is probably good for my age. I could do better, but I also value my joy. I’d just like to live a while, well.

I wanted to be a lot further than I am. It’s a very slow roll that has me grinding teeth. I’m trying to find the places I can make progress and step back from where I can’t. And spend that time in an enjoyable way.

Watching Ronan Farrow talk about catch and kill in light of trump’s conviction and knowing women have been central to some of his high profile defeats in court… chef’s kiss

Oof. It’s so hard to find one. I stayed with one that wasn’t a great fit for a long time because it’s so hard. Have been in my new position without one for almost a year because I don’t have the energy. Eventually the weight of what I have to offload will force the issue, as always ad nauseum

I’ve always felt comfort in the ocean. It’s so much bigger, more chaotic, and just unfathomable in comparison to anything going on in my heart or head

The hoops I have to jump through to order a single antibody are making me lose my mind. I know things are slow the first year but this feels like they are actively trying to impede research

I learned about the bombing when I lived in West Philly for college and would see some of the Africas around. This recent realization about the remains is so supremely fucked up. If anyone needs a deeply reported dive into past and present, I recommend www.cbc.ca/listen/cbc-p...

Please share and use: a spreadsheet documenting the cuts announced by 87 (!) US universities & colleges during the 2023-24 academic year … so far. A long, dispiriting list of college closures, faculty/staff layoffs, academic program eliminations, and significant budget cuts.

Today is exactly the kind of day I hoped being a professor would be like: teaching in the morning, lab work in the afternoon, with a pause in dissections to join the rest of campus outside for the eclipse. My nerdy heart is full 🤓

I lived in the Bay Area for 15yrs and yeah, kinda. The stronger ones always messed with my inner and made me dizzy. But afterwards, I always thought I’d prefer those small occasional releases of tension to The Big One
