I don’t think Biden stepping aside would guarantee anything about the ultimate result of the election, but I do think it would be a genuinely, rarely honorable act of self-awareness and self-sacrifice for a greater good. He could spin it as a Cincinnatus gesture with some justification.

If I was Trump, I would just thank Biden for his service, and say that it's time for someone else to carry on. After that he basically wouldn't need to say much more. And almost any other democrat candidate could do the same to Trump as well.

Key point to remember is Cincinnatus resigned *after he won and the threat was over*. This would be like him stepping aside while the Aequians were still marching.

It would also be the kind of thing that would draw a real contrast between the parties, if only because it’s precisely something that Trump would never do, and which Republicans could never countenance.

Agreed, however I remain committed to my (everyone’s?) top priority- denying power to Trump. Sure, it would have good optics. But would it improve the odds of defeating Trump? I am deeply skeptical. I am also deeply skeptical Pres Biden is ok. So…yeah.

how do you think the Dems would pick a replacement candidate if he stepped aside?
