your regular reminder that pretty much all the craziest maddow-brain winemom russiagate stuff was actually true and trump just successfully covered it up then pardoned most of the people involved!
“Russiagate” was also well-executed motte-and-bailey campaign.
The Greenwalds of the world seem to have pulled off the sleight of hand by which the fact that Trump (probably) was not a literal directly-managed Russian agent is now widely understood to mean there was no Russian influence at all.
I maintain to this day that wine moms have the most impressive track record in all of this. Wine moms never indulged in the whole 'today Trump became President' thing.
The fact that a bunch of the loudest voices on "the left" insisting the Trump-Putin connections were all paranoid cope by dejected Clintonites have since revealed themselves to be Twitter Files left-to-right fascists... it's interesting is all! bsky.app/profile/cnm....
the single biggest fake news report of the russiagate scandal was Hannity saying it was Seth Rich, not Russia, who hacked Hillary; and Glenn promoted that story at the time
“Covered them up”? All he had to do was go around saying it never happened on the daily multiple times…and people just kind of, oh fuck yeah, I guess it never did because…what? I dunno…
Those of us who used to be in the Bad Place got all of our info from a delightful woman who ran an account she called "Russian Conspiracy Twitter." But, of course, it turned out not to be a conspiracy at all. A huge and horrifyingly diagnostic failure by the press to pay attention to the Real Story.
Watching Maddow’s coverage at the height of Russiagate, I kept wondering why the law wouldn’t immediately come down on Trump for all of it. Turns out I was so so so naive
The only material part that was crazy was the evidence free claims that Russian operatives changed vote totals or mind controlled Americans into voting against Hillary Clinton. All the major stuff short of that was pretty true.
the LARB piece about andrea manafort’s texts— and by extension, how paul manafort treated his wife— is one of the more unreal and chilling artifacts of the trump admin
