This would be a huge boon for scholars, too. Authors don't really create genres, exactly, at least not to the extent that acquisitions editors do.

On brainwashing, by the way, I recommend this great lecture from 2015: youtu.be/KmxkU826x0I?... about how the CCP basically abandoned intensive reeducation, but how it captured the American imagination anyway.

This is exactly my experience. I don't teach about Gaza or Israel (not in my area) but students talk about it to me. I've met anti-encampment/anti-protest students, but the student body overwhelmingly supports Palestine in person and in digital spaces. I'm learning from them on this, not vice versa.

I bet it was great (I would sign up if I could!) but I think some overlap between lucidity and fugue makes for awesome teaching. Or at least I hope so. If not, my students sadly don't have the 'advance ten seconds' button to mash repeatedly in case of emergency...

That gives more concepts. My students are expected to recognize it but don’t have to use it to read literature or texts, soo can cheat. Contemporary Anglo versions I don’t think emphasize the birth cycle, just rock-paper-scissors back and forth.

I don’t ever have to do the details, so this might not be enough, but I show the chart of Pokémon type interactions, the back of a Magic: the Gathering card, and if there’s space on the slide a bit of the new age elemental tarot. Then I explain it and it’s still weird but no longer crazy.

Guerrilla reading in the library stacks, today a bilingual reading of Liu Xiaobo's "A Small Rat in Prison," tr. Jeffrey Yang. A security door cachunked behind me right at my favorite line of the translation: "A very gentryman, the mouse tonight..." so I read it 2x. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENTT...

From Lisa L. Moore, U of Texas: "The chilling effect is real. In the wake of SB17, the Texas anti-DEI legislation, a lecture with word "queer" in the title is cancelled at UT. My friend Lauren Gutterman and I wrote this piece because we need to put these assaults on freedom on the record."

What I'd add is that Heidegger's specific methodology is also palingenetic, arguing the (intellectual) purity and superiority of a mythic past. This kind of thinking is not limited to, but is endemic in fascist cultures, a sort of "make Germany Greek again." It can play a similar role in China.
