In fairness to SCOTUS; it's pretty good at representing the long-term interests of American lawyers to ensure the open-ended increase of the amount of litigation in the system.

The great thing about having splendid friends is that you get excellent, insightful comments on a near complete draft; the downside is you realise the draft is far from completed.

One good reason not to follow the style sheet of a press is that when after acceptance you have to redo the references you discover you mistakenly cited Voltaire when you should have cited Condorcet.

Touche! I tend to think of the Marburg school as rather bourgeois:) (and have thought of writing on some of them). But i didn't realise 'left kantianism' was a nod to Marburg. Now I have to reconsider my nope.

I think his claims about srebenica were ultimately mistaken (and plausibly due to his mistrust of mainstream media). I have views on gaza and also his stance but thats for another time.

I am seeing reports online that Noam Chomsky has died. I think he was the intellectual I find it most difficult to disagree with because his views were so well-informed, so well articulated, and they came from such a humane place. The age of giants is passing. RIP

1. I think Reichenbach's claim that our moral life is a hodgepodge is correct. 2. I also think he is right to predict we won't arrive at a final moral theory (unless there is a homogeneous world state).

In the post, I link to Christian Damböck's paper that suggests there is more distance between his student views and the later ones. But I am happy for folk to trace more continuities. I do think it's odd that this book figures into a de-politicization narrative, but about that another time more
