they made this same polite request of Roberts last year and he gave them the finger. he will almost certainly do the same this time. the Dems are at a crossroads with the courts. if they want voters to understand this as an existential crisis for democracy they need to act like it is one.
That's the most infuriating thing about all of this - even if I do believe this is an existential election (I mostly do), no one involved seems to give a damn. Why should I, in that case?
SO MANY things the Democrat Party keeps SAYING are existential, immediate, threats; but not so important that anything should be engaged in or really even talked much about. Vote for them and if they win, they will consider talking about it in 2028.
Exactly. Enough with this gentlemanly pussy footing around. File a bill. Hold hearings on it. Subpoena the whole lot of them. They have declared war on our Constitutional norms. The Senate needs to start acting like it.
It's genuinely amazing because 'we're going to reform the courts but the only way we can do that confidently is with a mass movement behind us' could be a really winning strategy!
I guess it'd make their lunches together a lil awkward though.
Failure to meet with Congress is a violation of the "good behavior" clause of Article III. Determinations by a justice in violation of the good behavior clause have no legal effect.
