Mirrors The New Yorker's profile of Mark Burnett. We can talk ourselves blue about Fox News and Facebook, but "Donald Trump, the competent, intelligent, and successful businessman you should listen to" is largely the invention of the ostensibly liberal entertainment industry & NBC, specifically.
You can blame the entertainment industry for creating the myth of the good guy gun toting vigilante, the happy housewife and the idyllic small town America too.
Jeff Zucker both greenlit The Apprentice and was running CNN in 2016. Maybe the single person most responsible for Trump's media coverage and image as a savvy businessman
i never watched that show, but it always just seemed so silly. unbelievable to me that people watched that and were impressed. but that's the power of just being on tv (and marketing/production), i guess.
Watching Jimmy Fallon playfully tousle Trump's hair at a time when he was entrenched in scandal leading up to the election was so surreal. It was so clearly produced.
This is why, today, even below-the-line crew are made to sign NDAs that supposedly extend in *perpetuity* or else there'd be thousands of stories like this
Been reading the Hunger Games prequel. Well worth the comparison between Dr. Gaul and Burnett. There’s something deep about people who create the culture and hate humanity
