I still think the fact that we are now living in a world as hot as when sea levels were 7 metres higher globally and deeming that to be somehow economically or socially successful, desirable even, is the most bonkers news story in Earth's history

For the UK I'd argue this was a binary: 14 years of managed decline, or literally anyone else I just think this time around, in this context and given what's in play, this was a good result (not the best, but better than the only realistic alternative)

Outside of online grousing about FPTP and Labour’s failure to transform society in its first 3 hrs in power, there’s a sensible majority of voters who value integrity, competence - and bolder climate action

I can't understand people who say "no party perfectly represents me" and don't vote Surely that's the essence of what democracy is as experienced by voters within a given society: agreeing that our differences are so profound that we need to divine preference from the imperfect every so often?

Appear to have been banned from the bird app for posting about this election but: You're totally free to do what you want today. Vote, don't vote, moan, don't moan, spoil your ballot, wear a bin on your head. And that makes you lucky. You can not vote, absolutely. Just check your privilege

This will for obvious reasons make headlines today.

But I think it's important to flag the proximate cause of these microplastics: Fossil Fuels.

This is a Fossil Fuels Are Exterminating Us study. Be interesting to see how often it's messaged that way www.ciel.org/issue/fossil....

Another month, another four weeks of oil companies incoherently increasing upstream volumes (in order, they say, to meet demand), while mid/downstream output continues to fall EVs and less flying means oil demand is (or would be without fossil fuel subsidies) in terminal decline

World, meet The Stock Problem.

Climate change is a stock problem - the amount of GHG in the atmosphere is directly equivalent to how warm things get.

And we are constantly increasing the stock

To solve a problem, first you must stop making it worse www.theguardian.com/environment/...

We are blasting past 1.5C, positively sailing over it, thanks to ever higher fossil fuel emissions
