“AI” is the culmination of the tech industry. Every time you use it, you destroy the environment, erode labor protections, endanger workers overseas, enrich the ruling class, and make something unforgivably worthless, all at the same time – and it's all hidden from you in a frictionless distraction.
yes and yes and yes. I wish more people would truly understand this and come together to oppose it. sigh. may I share a screenshot of your skeet with my students?
As a huge fan of articulating complex issues simply and succinctly, you certainly did a number with this. Absolutely spot-on and depressingly true. Top marks.
Bit of a hot take for emerging technology. Kinda like saying there are stupid kids who aren't provided a quality education, so we should kill all children. None of today's AIs will be used in a few months. More useful and less offensive systems will keep replacing them as they figure this tech out.
Endanger BS computer scientists, journalists, artist and photographers, song writers - the creative class. We need a standardized ID/mark for human authenticity.
"Unforgivably worthless"? You go way too far there. We are already seeing good progress on new drugs and biomedical research. I have seen some excellent documentation projects. I have used GPT to learn/figure out stuff that completely impractical any other way. As a programmer, it is invaluable.
But isn't that embedded in Smith'ian capitalism and capitalism in general? Worth is within the shareholder, neither the consumer nor the producer's eye. So maybe AI is just the climax of neoliberal capitalistic evolvement as there is nothing left to do on a burning planet where only few care anyhow
