A thought: the whole Biden-is-too-old thing was kind of a bubble, in the sense that people were buying it mainly because other people were buying it. Did Biden just burst that bubble?

Some very influential people are unfortunately not just heavily invested in this bubble but are its actual purveyors. In other news, please send your colleague Peter Baker my warmest regards.

People have such short memories. Biden also *killed it* in the prior SOTU speech. He was vibrant, quick on his feet, witty, and forceful a year ago. And then, as if that never happened, we're now saying the same thing this year. Or, rather, is it that most people can't think for themselves?

It’s a first step, but he has to keep at it. It’s more a deflation than a burst.

Their bubbles always burst when they come into contact with reality. They just build new bubbles.

Yeah what I kept thinking as I watched it was that basically the Republicans have had the floor, with all the propaganda pumped out by FOX and talk radio, and obediently repeated and given a platform by the "liberal media" like CNN and the NYT. When Biden gets to respond, then another side is heard.

"Too old" does not necessarily mean "infirm". I don't want any 80yo to be president. I don't want any 70yo to be president either.

unfortunately I don't think they'll ever consider it burst because they don't want to. DJT's projection of his flaws continues.

Naw... anyone that dislikes Biden isn't gonna watch that whole address... they are gonna get the worst parts of him slurring his words edited together into viral megamix they saw on their social media... and they will have their beliefs reaffirmed.

It’s an op. A strategy purposefully pushed and pursued.

Biden is still old. And more importantly, he's actively participating in a genocide.

Depends: I'd argue he had to convince the press. But they've already bought so much in the previous narrative, are they willing to reconsider?

Doubtful. People were buying it because Biden is, in fact, too old. But so is Trump and it's a wash. It does undercut any Democratic Party argument that it's incredibly important to defeat Trump though. If they believed that then they would have offered their best and brightest.

I think much like actual economic data the question is how normies respond. For some people "Biden is too old" is an article of faith.

No. He IS old and regardless of how well he performs, it will still be an obvious target for the right and will remain a concern for the electorate. What would help would be a running mate able to convince the electorate they’d be a popular choice if they were called into service

Isn’t it more people were buying it because he’s in fact old and the press, lacking any other negative narrative, coalesced on his age? The question is whether the press will stop writing about his age and it won’t. They will set up continual age hurdles and wait for a stumble.
