The West Wing was entertaining at times but I swear rotted more brains than Futurama brain slugs. “For SCOTUS, let’s nominate an extreme right-winger AND a lefty! They’re in the Roosevelt room fighting like cats and dogs, but I don’t know — it works!” Like they’re casting a romcom.

1. No one says "Goodbye", they all just hang up on people. I've heard arguments about why & find them nuts, to me it's like showing people walking through walls instead of doors because "doors don't advance the drama". The best is when they DO show "hanging up on someone". It looks the same!

I actually didn't see you calling it court packing but more like "during the 'court packing' fight", but wanted to clarify w an expert, thanks. "We should pack the court" is a pet peeve of mine, it's like saying "We should put our thumb on the scale". It's just expansion, that word works fine.

Kevin can you confirm "court packing" wasn't just an existing generic term for expansion but a slur Republicans coined for FDR's "Judicial Reform" bill? I cringe when ppl say "We should pack the court", it's like saying "We should stack the deck", it's not neutral, it's adopting a GOP pejorative.

It's been very interesting to see English language news tear up all their planned "far right now rules France, here's how progressives fucked up" stories and hurriedly write "no bloc has a majority, here's why that's bad for progressives" stories.

"Denying her her victory" is also insane, ignorant claptrap. Coming in 1st or 2nd in the first round of voting doesn't guarantee or mean anything. Jean Marie Le Pen came in 2nd in the 1st round in 2002. In the 2nd round, Chirac beat him 82% to 17%. 1st rounds are splintered, ppl make a statement

Le Pen still got the same ~17%, but Chirac got basically all the rest, 82%. "Hold your nose and vote for Chirac". He had only gotten like 19% in the 1st round. It's strategic voting, but it's also just the two-round system. Not understanding it is one thing, but calling it a conspiracy is nuts 2/2

After living in France 10+ years one thing that became clear is how few Americans understand the French two-round voting system. One year I was there JM Le Pen shocked by coming in 2nd in the 1st round, but the 1st round is traditionally splintered, people make a statement, then in the 2nd round 1/

If we really push a "left comebacks sweeping the globe" narrative enough so the media starts repeating it, then there's a chance US voters will vote differently out of FOMO. Worth a try anyway. Dear News Tip Line: LEFT COMEBACKS SWEEPING THE GLOBE!

Funny follow up on this, I msgd a link to the article to someone who asked and noticed that linked that way, it still shows the old BS headline, both in text and written into the artwork. The paper is devoted to giving a platform to hard right-wingers and keeps getting embarrassed by them.

I mean, "I have managed to renounce [voting] with very little difficulty" is clearly a claim that he refrained from voting at least once. and found it easy. Otherwise of *course* it's with no difficulty if all you've done is think maybe I won't vote next time. Makes no sense that way He duped them

It wasn't just the headline, he lied in the article too. And they didn't even bother to change that. Only with the most slimy mental gyrations could you claim that this meant "I always voted but I'm not planning to next time". What he wrote implies that he put it into practice already.

One of the cool things about this new Supreme Court ruling is that since you take bribes in exchange for "official acts" pretty much by definition, the president is now free to take bribes! I wonder if that's something Donald Trump might take advantage of.

There is no constitutional text that says presidents are immune from all criminal law. Nor was it the intent of the authors of the Constitution or any amendments. It is inconsistent with American precedent and tradition. They just made it up.
