when you vote for President you are voting for a coalition rather than a person.
the right understands this very well, which is why evangelicals lined up behind Trump.
I would argue that evangelical morals are in fact Trump's morals, it wasn't a sacrifice on their part. But the coalition imperative did give them the space to come around fully to this realization
I'd go even further and say the right is weaponizing the left's failure to understand this by coalescing around the very flawed Trump while seeking to magnify Biden's much lesser flaws.
Yeah, bad coalition, doesn't reliably represent my interests, and in fact usually pulls some nanny nanny boo boo we betrayed you but you have to vote for us bullshit
The right lines up behind a coalition because there's a coalition that actually represents and works toward achieving rightwing interests. There simply is no such coalition for the left in American politics.
The Democrats are neither leftwing nor a coherent coalition that works towards anything.
I'm also voting for the type of officials that president might appoint: are they gonna be buddies of his who are looking to profit, or buddies of his who actually know their stuff?
I think the challenge that a lot of people have is that a bunch of us tend to collapse the coalition at a moments notice. The whole "Do Something" vibe has to be premised on not recognizing distinct groups with their own, independent, power
Tbh I would say the stronger example of this is lining up behind Romney, which was a further ideological & sociocultural leap for most GOP Christian base than Trump is
