Well thank you. I just tried to justify it to myself thinking “owls are predators” so maybe they eat other birds. I did a quick search and it’s not very common: eat more mice, squirrels, rabbits and fish. But sometimes birds. 😜

It would be great if SCBWI created a presence on bluesky. And began promoting that presence in its newsletters, etc to alert others who don’t know about the #kidlit community on here

To keep on top of publishing industry changes, I rely on SCBWI conferences, local monthly meetings and nat’l monthly newsletters. I use social media like BlueSky and the 12x12 Facebook group. I also sometimes read the Publishers Weekly newsletters. #kidlitchat

Thanks for the reminder about the setting toggle to require alt text before posting. I always intend to add but often forget and you can’t edit posts so those images remain without alt tags when I hit submit before adding.

I HATE opossums! They only appear at night and crawl along the top of my fence, making my dogs go crazy. Their response to predators is to freeze so it becomes a never ending standoff. I’ve had to lock my dogs inside and now 20 minutes later and this guy is still here! Go AWAY #opossum!

I took THE SKULL by Jon Klassen out and read it from the library last week and returned it Wednesday (wonder if that’s the same copy 😉). I knew nothing about the book going in (not even that it was a folktale) and found it interesting. Loved the author’s note most of all.

Congrats! I also sent one this morning! 🙌 I’m still relatively new to querying (~10) so each time I send one I still find it stressful (that mix of hope with tampered expectations and worry that it might not be ready). But I remind myself and I can’t get a yes if I never send it out.

All of this art theft, deleting most of my instagram, replacing images on my website - photoshop theft now, etc, has seriously drained my focus and inspiration. I might need to take a long break. I don’t know. It sucks.

I think the migration is growing. Prior to today the only place I was seeing mention of Cara was on BlueSky. None of the kidlit illustrators I’m friends with or follow on Instagram had mentioned it or made accounts. Then today I saw at least 20 announcements in my Insta feed of new Cara accounts.
