No relationship between the size of the bird and the amount of wash sloshed out of the birdbath!

It takes alot of teaching. I believe this is a female Belted Kingfisher teaching her female youngster to fish. This branch seemed to be a learner’s branch. No hovering required, just dive when you see one. My fave photo from Thursday.🪶

These are so hard to spot, let alone catch parent and baby, and a great shot to top it all off! Zone focus and extreme patience to capture this one? Epic!

Bizarre, icy sculptures! Sometimes Lake Michigan has spectacular ice that crumples and beaches along its shores, also bizarre.

We had redtails nesting near home for years. Mom or Dad would bring the fledglings over, catch a squirrel in our trees and divvy it up between the babies who would still be hungry. Then it was their turn!

All the more startling because we’ve been so invaded by nutria. Morning quiet, and “is that a nutria…” and repeated slaps and splashing! “Beaver!”

Seems pretty up-gradey to me, beer with your burger! Spouse used to work for a German owned company here in U.S., and Germans had beer with lunch, and 4 weeks vacation while Americans had coffee and 2 weeks.

We’re still getting new baby birds, 1-2 weeks post fledging and mooching from our feeders, hanging out at birdbaths…flickers, chickadees, towhees, nuthatches, jays, hummers etc., all weeks later than normal

Read this, and weep for the million plus people who died from Covid, the millions messed up from Covid, and the millions with chronic illness, on chemo or frail, whose lives were greatly curtailed by Covid. But don’t feel sorry for those who lied about it.

when I was a child, I thought smart people were in charge. when I got older, I realized you didn't have to be smart to be in charge. but the piece that was hardest to learn is that no one is really in charge at all. no one's going to fix it beyond us.

Amazing that here in US of A, many would rather consign some to poverty and others to endless work, so Bezos, Buffet, Zuckerberg, Musk, etc., can have 20 percent of the world’s money.

Ward Cleaver Beaver also slapped his tail in warning, a couple times when family was out swimming at dawn. Still lots to see, if you really look, can be quiet and patient.

Same park had ouzel (American dipper), deer and we even encountered a baby heron (GBH probably), slowly picking its way along the path on those gangly legs. I am still ID-ing new, interesting native plants there though and the beaver family (Ward, June and Beaver Cleaver) were often out at dawn
