I just watched a grown adult man on an e- bike blow through a T intersection and a stop sign at the bottom of a hill without slowing down, looking, or hand signaling he turned right in front of me at the T intersection baffling

I did get a chance one year. We encountered a juvenile running across tioga road near ranger camp The bears like these are found in Canada and Alaska hunting for salmon and I have not had the pleasure to go yet

Oh yea? It’s beautiful up here this time of year In the birding world, I met a gentleman who set out on an official California Big Year in OC at a mutual RBA before he set out on a repo cruise out of Long Beach. Currently sitting at number one in CA by a mile He too was here this week!

With this eastern Sierra trip ending, I found 14 lifers!
Most importantly, paired down my backlog list to 5 birds
And along the way I managed to bird 88 Mono/Tuolumne County birds! What a birding win; this trip!

I started using eBird to track my life list because of this white wagtail, wintering in SoCal 2023 I had a lifelist of ~120 then, so I resolved to find every bird before this wagtail rather than backlogging This Lewis’s woodpecker at mono lake park was one of the last remaining backlog targets /1

The broadbill female shows some spots too which was what I used to id. But the clearest indicator is a combination of black crescent on the lore and a thin white line that cuts the upper bill I was told only the calliope has those combination of field marks among selasphorus hummers

Endless and actually a lot of work. Who decided 40 hour a week was health amounts of work? We have systems and things that should have made our lives easier, but the ruling elites decided people had too much time to recreate in the same things they were doing So now we’re all indentured servants 👎

It’s def not an Allen’s. The photos are Live Photos and I can tell the rectrices are not lancolated Allen’s is really rare here broad tail has range that summers here And so does calliope, they breed in the sierras as well 🤷♂️😳

Broad-tailed Hummingbird — surprise lifer! I originally misID this selasphora as Allen’s because I’ve never seen a broad-tailed hummer before I knew Allen’s range would be extremely rare here this time of year, so I studied my photos longer and def didnt see Allen’s as I suspected Lifer! Woohoo!🪶
