And for me it's from both angles - the bar for me to watch a video (that's longer than say 15 seconds) is MUCH higher than for me to read page of text and pictures. If I were a publisher inundated with videos, I'd be very frustrated. But that is me. I know there will be pubs with the opposite.

My first big convention pitching was based on sell sheets, and I got meetings with 7 publishers. I signed my first game with one of them. The same thing used to be said about resumes, but they were still the #1 way companies did their first level screening. I guess I'm not buying it quite yet.

Ha! So, you are basically substituting video for sell sheet. And that's great! But you are doing something that for many is actually harder.

I'll just repeat that I've gotten many meetings from just emailing sell sheets. Barring an existing relationship or another provided mechanism, I think it's one of the best options. In fact, for most publishers it may be the only option if you don't have that relationship.

It's nice when they can clearly articulate what they don't want. Some publishers put this information out there reasonably, but for most it's something you really only learn after interaction. I like the "specific questions they want answers to" angle.

Yes, absolutely. having an existing relationship can simplify things a lot. That obviously doesn’t work for everyone though.

I've never seen Gladiator. Now I see a sequel is coming. And it has some real acting talent. Is the original something I should truly watch? No one ever gave me a good reason, but obviously it was and is incredibly popular.

And just like a video, this can be a high bar for some. So, the same general thing applies - publishers should strive to receive information about games in a variety of ways.

Just like ANY communication form about details, asking for one can be a blow off. But heck, I've had "email me after the con and we'll set up a virtual play/meeting" be a blow off. I don't think that's about sell sheets.

I find sell sheets a very good medium to communicate about a game. It works for me and can put a lot of information in a small amount of space. Hopefully, publishers don't get caught up on how nice they look. But to me a sell sheet is about putting the most information in an easy to consume space.
