Yeah, I lived Eastbourne, Itβs got a similar vibe, something that like you occurred to me. Walkable, great public transport, great wee cafes, seaside, etc. Locals get the place to themselves, all sleepy and quiet, during the colder parts of the year.

Yeah, I grew up from about age 1 to starting high school living in Maraetai Beach, just outside of Auckland. We had boats and were members of the yacht club, etc.

Hmmm, I like your optimism here, and yeah that would really be the best outcome for the UK, but honestly I don't see Starmer doing ANYTHING vaguely constitutional (running away from repealing Brexit shows his chops in this regard, and honestly the man is highly status-quo centrist off-white paint).

Interestingly, if Labour gets a massive majority like this might be, that might actually pose a bigger problem for Labour than a slightly smaller majority, because a massive majority allows marginalisation and faction-alisation to occur within the MPs (particularly amongst the less experienced ones)

This is the thing, like with NZ last year, this isn't so much a ideological swing, this is an anti-incumbency swing, combined with the winning party not actually engendering strong support in itself (ie it is a swing away, not a swing to).

As a lawyer who worked in mass tort cases resulting from unsafe products, I would agree. Remember asbestos industry was unregulated, yet knowingly churned out unsafe. Old movies like Civil Action, The Insider, Erin Brockovich.. provide good examples why regulations and oversight needed.
