what we're seeing all around the country is the lesson those in power learned from the George Floyd protests: they should have crushed them faster and harder sit down and shut up and let us kill people without being yelled at

And when you think about getting uppity, remember we don’t have to let you live in our America.

I just can't see how it doesn't backfire again. The lesson they *should* have learned is that a "hard crackdown" that tops out at nightsticks, teargas, and a night in jail is just enough to make the protestors look good without actually deterring people who cared casually from getting more involved.

The lesson of Occupy Wall Street was: eventually illegal violence will be necessary to crush the movement. (Better to deploy violence while the media is still peddling the antisemitism narrative.) Use force quickly & decisively.

Meanwhile the protesters and sympathisers have learned the opposite: Collaborate with the police state and under no circumstances resist any demands or claims made of your movement no matter how outlandish and performatively bad-faith

Here in Portland, we had repurposed CBP officers in unmarked riot gear uniforms kidnapping people off the streets without warrants, surveillance aircraft circling overhead, and rubber bullets fired across a two-lane street into a protestor's face, all part of the Federal government "helping."

Can't very well buy bullets from your benefactors if you don't use the ones you already have. What sense does that make?

they’ll also find ways to “covertly” instigate protesters to rationalize chemical weapons & “less than lethal” ammunition then curfews & national guard (a lot of whom are aching for a reason to shoot us).

I'm old enough to remember Kent State. I thought that would be enough to stop right wing oppression, I guess I was wrong.

they just want to put a boot on the throat of a powerless person, is that too much to ask??? And its revealing how many people just can't watch to watch the state put a boot on someone without power.

Yes, because roughing up Vietnam War protesters famously put an end to all the unrest. /s Charitable explanation: those calling for crackdowns didn't learn from history. Cynical explanation: they know it won't work and just want an excuse to hurt dissenters.
