One of the things that saddens me about the normalising of the far right is that parties of “the sorta left” have moved to accommodate bigots as they believe “the masses” are far shittier than they actually are

Absolutely true. I think about this a lot. Democrats have become Republicans. Not all at once. It's been a process over decades. But it seems to be moving much faster now. I just saw an ad for a Democrat I've supported talking about all he's done to secure the border and stop immigration. WTF.

I'm sure for a lot of them it's because either they've stayed on Twitter, or the journalists they take their views from have stayed on Twitter. That was a fiendish trap.

I'm still backing SNP, it was Westminster interference that blocked the gender reforms and recycling scheme so hopefully they'll avoid moving to the right to get labour votes.

yes. this is how abusers work. you end up internalizing their bullshit because the gaslighting and other manipulations are so fucking thick. I wish more people understood better how to recognize and resist it. Not claiming to be any expert here either. But I do see patterns.

Since the 80's, those on the bottom have got less and less. One of the problems with living in a trickle up economy is the people without hope just want change, & centrism isn't change. It's why we had brexit, it's why France is going the way it is. The left is always crushed, so people go right

I've always liked to give people the benefit of the doubt, which has always without question left me looking like a fool. So these days I tend to believe you never capitulate to bigotry unless on some level you agree with that bigotry. Which sadly keeps being proved right.

It also makes people on the hard left act like a bunch of defeatist whiners. like no dude, your college roommate is not an irredeemable neonazi just because he watches too much andrew tate, thats just what the algo shows to people who aren't actively avoiding it
