The banding is bad compression artifacts. Some fancy DVD players added dithering in those areas to obscure the banding. I think the technical term is āmacroblockā and itās noticeable in over compressed JPEGs too.

I have no idea how many CDs I have, probably over 10k. Not nearly as much vinyl, at least 800 maybe 1000. Enough that I can't remember what I have and don't have (at one point in my life I had over 3000 LPs but got rid of them because they were too hard to move around)

Does anyone think LaserDisc looks better than DVD? I know there were some crappy DVD transfers, but as someone who was all-in on LaserDisc in the 80s, DVD was a big improvement. And Blu-Ray took it even further and looks great for full-HD content.

I loved the hourly time announcement, I think it was the VoxClock III that had that. I can't remember what happened to mine, I think my girlfriend (now wife) didn't like it talking hourly and I got rid of it.
