TGIF, everyone

For just one more week "Paris 1874: The Impressionist Moment" is at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. A remarkable exhibition, it celebrates the (difficult) birth of French Impressionism 150 years ago.

Hello historian/academia hive-mind! I’ll be teaching a hybrid class for the first time, meeting once a week in person. Would love some suggestions of how to structure it. Lecture in person + online work? Online lecture vids + class discussion? Any suggestions much appreciated! 🗃️

I have not been posting my sailing the Greek Med updates here, so I thought I’d say a few things about it. First, if you want to understand the ancient Greek world better, living on a sailboat without a home port for 2 months might help. I’ve accessed multiple ancient sites from the sea… /1

Same! Really helps to get historical voices in your head. Plus, people got extra-dashy flinging off key info while trying to make a ship / postal pickup. Relatable! Thinking of my own fruitphone errata…

Love this! We check scrupulously for this in Adams Papers copyedit, given the glorious vagaries of 1790s punctuation. John Adams often ended a sentence with “.–“ or “point terminal dash” as we call it when collating transcriptions aloud. It’s easy to muddle when moving from manuscript to annotation!

💯 agreed! Plus, chatting with librarians + archivists about finds + speed bumps is super helpful. May be new collections afoot, or new ways to recatalogue metadata to make archives more discoverable.
