THE COLOR PURPLE was everything. Just a gorgeous, heartbreaking, life affirming movie. Everybody was fantastic. Deon Cole are you kidding me?? 🤯 Whoopi deserved the Oscar in the original. I would love to see Fantasia take it here. But the whole cast! I mean, Danielle Brooks! 😍😍 #thecolorpurple

And now that I am ready to deliver this draft that has been driving me like Ben-Hur for months, I might actually start opening the five hundred packages stacked in every corner of this house. I hope the kids haven't looked too closely at the sender labels and figured out what's for Christmas.

I finished a seventh draft of a new novel today, and it feels momentous. So far only three early readers have seen it. It's my first new novel in many years. I don't know how I have any tears, sweat or blood left after pouring them all into that manuscript.

Sometimes I think about the Pulitzer-winning author who visited my MFA program and told us to never write about children because "they aren't interesting" and then I dust off my 40 award-winning, bestselling children's books and have a good laugh

I know there are so many amazing employees at Scholastic who hate the decisions Fairs makes, who try do whatever they can internally to push against it, so I hope this pressure keeps up bc it'll help those who are trying to make change on the inside.

Currently working on a Ship of Theseus revision. If I change every sentence of my first draft but the structure of the story is essentially the same, will it still be the same book?

Okay, help me out here. Two packets of cookies, identical brand and package weight. Both packets contain two cookies, and each cookie contains 160 calories. But on one the total calories is 320, and on the other it's 310. WHERE DID THAT OTHER 10 CALORIES GO?

one of the most corrosive habits of online dunk culture is making it imperative that everyone be correct at all times and making it harder to be like "oh shit i didn't know that" and then change your mind, which is something that is normal, healthy, and good, imo.

16yo: Why aren’t we born knowing how to walk like some animals?
Me: Because we have big brains. The more intelligent the animal, the more helpless the infant.
16yo (*shakes her head sadly*): Is that what we’re telling ourselves?
