DoorDash food delivery grackle style! The grackles appear to have babies to feed as they are very busy catching bugs around the marsh. This male common grackle is making his way back to the nest with a beak full and showing off his incredible iridescence while doing it!🪶

There was a willet at the marsh that really wanted to come over to where I was, but it was against the rules. THIS ⬇️ is the enforcer of the rules. No ducks and certainly no waders are allowed at his end of the marsh. He has a nest to protect and this horned grebe is serious!🪶

Soras are small, robin sized birds, in the rail family and they love reeds and marsh grasses! They are rarely seen as they nest in the reeds, live in the reeds and rarely come out. This Sora was slowly wading through the grasses by the marsh edge looking for insects. 🪶

Willets are a fairly common wading bird in our prairie marshes. This one was foraging in the shallow reeds looking for invertebrates and bugs to eat. This willet was also paying very close attention to a horned grebe, the owner of the marsh, who kept chasing him away!🪶

After a long day of chasing ducks, willets and other assorted interlopers away from your end of the marsh, sometimes a horned grebe just needs to relax among the reeds. 🪶

When you’ve just flown more than 5000 miles to migrate to your breeding area, and you’re still not there yet, the FIRST thing you do is cool off in a stream! We thought they’d all gone through, but about a week ago, this male blackpoll warbler dropped in for a quick bath!🪶

One of our shallower marshes virtually dried up 3 years ago and the grasses have since grown quite tall. But we’ve had some rain this spring so there are a few small areas of water. This mallard duck knows just where they are, and he’s coming into land in one of them! 🪶

Guys, I found it!! I'd heard that there's a spot nearby where Eastern Painted Turtles gather by the dozens but I wasn't sure exactly where it was... until today! I count 44 turtles in this pic, and there were many more in ones and twos everywhere.
