If I'm gonna be a pedantic jagoff, which I am, then the lie is that Francis Scott Key didn't write the Star Spangled Banner as a song. He wrote it as a poem called "Defence of Fort M'Henry." The tune came from "To Anacreon in Heaven," which was the official song of a British social club.
