Correct! These piddle-puddle halfwit Chicken Littles need to take a pill and/or a breath. Joe had a shitty night. He's sick, and he's Not-Young, and he was over-coached, and he lacked ALL feedback except from a pair of incompetent, disinterested questioners and a prolific Lie-Hole!

I give him credit just for getting through that without strangling Bret Stephens.

he ought to retire outright. this is feinstein territory- you are, almost literally, flogging a dead horse.

In the summer of ā€˜72 my dad took me and my brother to a party with his friends. He and his friends talked about the election and when the conversation turned to McGovern they all called him wishy-washy and indecisive. They had no love for Nixon but I bet a lot voted for him.

Counterargument: It makes lots of sense to say he's got enough gas left in the tank to finish this term, but maybe not enough for four more years.

I genuinely think Bouie has a sharp mind and a sense of journalist commitment that makes me suspects he deserves better than the NYT

I think itā€™s logical to say ā€œitā€™s fine for him to govern for another 6 months, but maybe not another 4 years and 6 monthsā€ That being said, Jamelle still has a good point that not everyone will see it that way, and Republicans will do everything they can to help them not see it that way

It has to be Biden and heā€™ll prove them wrong at the next debate. I think they did a terrible job preparing him. Absolutely forget about engaging with trumpā€™s lies. Have a pat answer for every question. Just lay out the future and pretend trump doesnā€™t exist.

Sometimes I wonder about how much farther ahead on acceptance and treatment of depression and mental illness we would be if voters (and McGovern himself) could have accepted Eagleton

The idea that "serious" people are seriously suggesting the Dems drop the incumbent president, who they've been hyping for years, with 4 months to the election just boggles my mind. I'm just a country rube, but this is the most asinine thing I've heard from the political elite. And that's not easy.

Wow, MegaCorp infotainment media is pitiful, the progressive policies of the Biden administration are working. In the real world, #bluetsunsmi is the path forward and 17 dimensional chess is a complicated game. Donā€™t give up the ship. Look forward and move forward.

I don't think it's contradictory tbh. The Presidency has taken an enormous toll like it does for most who hold the office. He can finish out his term but it's safer to move to someone younger for the next four years

Genuinely, I think the only way Biden could be replaced without tanking the election is if it's because he died of non-natural causes. Anything else vindicates the "He's too old" narrative.

As a Biden Must Go guy, I agree he should resign outright. Jamelle is absolutely right that you can't have one without the other. I differ in that I think the risk to Dems' chances could be mitigated, but even then I admit the risk could easily be *too* high. It's a discussion worth having...
