Having lived in Israel in the 90s, and having studied both Hebrew and Arabic, I can tell you that much of Israeli society just want all 'Arabs' (they are never referred to as Palestinians) gone from Israeli land; the means doesn't much matter, as they are subhuman, unworthy of much consideration.

Here's a picture taken from my front door; the Church of St Lawrence, Sedgebrook, Lincolnshire. Like so many village churches, it's crumbling, underused, and beyond villagers' means to properly maintain. But we love it and do our best to keep it going, as a cultural focal point, if that makes sense?

I don't know if you've visited the UK; if you have you may have noticed that, happily, religion really doesn't pervade our everyday lives, unless we choose it. I know very few people who go to church, and religion in schools is confined to Christmas and Easter. Faith's a private matter, mostly.
