Each year, Mormon History Association, funded by Smith-Pettit Foundation, sponsors a distinguished scholar whose expertise is outside of Mormonism to speak on Mormonism’s context. This year we’re honored to hear Robert Orsi, who is musing on Mormonism, Catholicism, sexuality, and good/bad religion.

Syringe feeding has gone poorly. Little one is still losing weight. Tomorrow I am moving to the resort that I really wanted to avoid: tube feeding. 😥

(I'm also a realist and know that cats have litters of many kittens throughout their life for a reason. We're going to do everything we can to keep this little one healthy and that includes remaining able to pay the bills).

I'm gonna do everything I can on my own to make sure this kitten doesn't die, but I'm not going to keep shelling out cash for veterinary care no better than I can provide on my own at home.

"Try syringe feeding."
Thanks. I also know how to read articles by KittenLady on the internet. Here's $80 for telling me what I already figured out on my own, I guess. 💸

Runt is not doing well and started losing weight. Took them to the vet to see what can be done. Here they are asleep in the warmth of my hand.
Vet charged me $80 to effectively look things up on the internet in real time and say, "I don't know. Bring them back if they get worse." 😒

The Mormon History Association’s annual conference is underway! This year it’s near Kirtland, and the opening plenary featured the LDS Church Historian Kyle McKay discuss the recent acquisition of historic properties.

Dan Ellsworth pretending that he's above conspiracy theories is rich considering that his whole shtick is basically fear-mongering about Cultural Marxism.

People sometimes get mad at me for making the point that exMormons are a kind of Mormon. Today, I can think of no better example supporting my argument than the "polygamy with extra steps" apparently practiced by Brad Kramer.

A big thanks to Stephen Carter for all the helpful editing (and catchy titles!) of my rambling into these far more digestible pieces. If you have ideas or essays you would like to share with a broad Mormon audience, consider submitting an essay to the Sunstone Review!

This is the fourth short essay in a series exploring factors that drive conspiracy thinking and how they are expressed in Mormon communities. My hope is to start a conversation with folks across the spectrum of Mormondom aimed at making our communities a safe and healthy place for all.

In this essay, I briefly discuss the availability heuristic and the Mormon practice of communal testimony-bearing. I also examine the plethora of conspiracy narratives in Mormon scripture and how they may encourage a general tendency to view the world through a conspiracist lens.

To understand Chad Daybell, who was sentenced to death by an Idaho jury last week, understand Brian David Mitchell first: Elizabeth Smart’s kidnapper, who called himself Immanuel David.

The Mormon Church has long opposed nuclear weapons. But a new exposé by @tkbarnes.bsky.social reveals its secretive investment manager, Ensign Peak Advisors, holds stock in 11 nuclear weapons contractors, including Northrop Grumman, builder of the new Sentinel ICBM. inkstickmedia.com/cracks-in-th...

An important story that I hope folks both within and without the LDS Church become aware of. It’s so easy for institutions to derail into unwise directions, but only when there’s encouragement to change internally & externally does anything ever really shift:

Max the cat has been a staple of the Vermont State University’s Castleton campus the last four years.
So it seemed like an obvious next step when the university bestowed an honorary doctor of “litter-ature” degree upon him.

Not everyone was surprised when white supremacists disrupted a Pride celebration last year in Centralia, Washington. Some say bigotry has been a fixture here since 1919. My latest long feature for @highcountrynews.bsky.social.
