I'm still concerned about the downside risk of swapping out this late but I've never thought the people arguing for Harris were insane or anything and I do recognize that the press seems to have a bone which could be a problem. I don't know, we'll see if he steps down cause if not it's all academic

It's going to depend on who you talk to. I think the answer is often going to be yes or no depending on whether you like the current PM. I do think the US' insane work culture (in some sectors) and status as the hegemon matter here

If you're not into it by end of book 3 then it's not for you. But if you go through book 1 and you're like "eh, maybe?" I'd push a bit further. It's in the 40k universe and it's about an Imperial Guard regiment from a world that was destroyed on the day of the regiment's founding. It's a great yarn!

Well in completely non political news I started reading Gaunt's Ghosts when @iboudreau.bsky.social mentioned it in on a podcast and I have not stopped. Currently on book 8 and God damn what a good series. If you want solid military sci fi I would recommend giving it a shot
