The Olympics ruined Sydney, Australia, hands down. For the past 30 years at least, the event has been used to raise real estate; displace the poor, & divert government funds towards a shitty tourist trap. If your city is vying for the Olympics, string up your elected officials before it’s too late

“There was total freedom of action…If there is [even] a feeling of threat, there is no need to explain — you just shoot.” When soldiers see someone… “it is permissible to shoot at their center of mass [their body], not into the air. It’s permissible to shoot everyone, a young girl, an old woman.”

Commonwealth countries (Aus/NZ/Canada, etc) still had allowances for corporal punishment (esp in Catholic schools—six of the best was a phrase we all knew in the 80s). The person posting is def Gen x from one of these countries

Few things radicalized me quite like healthcare while watching my grandmother waste away and die while burning through her entire life savings Nuke health insurance companies from orbit, then nuke the ashes just to be safe, then salt the earth so they can't grow back

I see networks of creatives boosting each other like crazy & it’s life-affirming to see; but do we see Dems posting or being interviewed & going “Rep X is killing it with district connection/ police accountability/ unhoused legislation/ etc”? We are literally on the same team 😰

My crazy idea (see the thread) is that Dems should praise each other’s work— all the small projects reps work on: promote that. You have doubts about Biden? How about all these other elected officials & their stuff ? Boost the party overall—is it that hard?!

What? No it wasn't. A bunch of people warned about exactly this, before it happened, and then AS IT WAS HAPPENING. People just… kept pretending that the dude who conned them hadn't conned them and was, in fact, a super genius, instead of taking the fucking L and holding him anything like accountable

Self-described “gay furry hackers” breached the Heritage Foundation in an attempt to undermine Project 2025, so of course an executive director at the right-wing think tank threatened them as “degenerate perverts” who would face God’s punishment and the FBI.

This is the kind of breakdown of Project 2025 we need more of—@jesspish.bsky.social is the leading expert on sheriffs and their myths, and was able to put a lot of history and context to work despite what little detail "Mandate" offered on sheriffs.

Texas is subsidizing $10 billion worth of new fossil fuel plants, citing new demand caused by climate change and population growth.
But in reality, much of the new demand is coming from supercomputers for AI and crypto.
Guess where the new plants will be placed:

this telescope was gifted to NASA by the NRO, which had it left over & sitting in a clean room since the late 90s (I think). What is the NRO & why do they have better telescopes than astronomers? Well, it’s a spy agency & there are 16 of these in orbit for the past 2 decades pointing down at Earth 😬

In sum, folks calling to replace Biden are both wrong on the cognitive science *and* the history. I get it. They're afraid. We're all worried. We often don't make smart choices when we're scared. Let's pause, take a breath, look at the science and expert analyses, instead.

Did the electorate abandon him in this crucial moment when the US could snuff out Hitler's Third Reich? No, they did not. If you're talking "replace Biden" now, I have a question: why are you so much weaker than voters in 1944? Would you have handed over the White House to the America Firsters?

I’m so cynical now that I’m trying to understand the benefit of releasing the Project 2025 agenda so openly. Like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop… Part of me is thinking they are going to coup again if the election doesn’t go their way & the brazen reveal is they know they have mechanisms

I feel like crypto and now AI are just tiny schemes by the fossil fuel industry to create insane energy demands to combat renewables. Texas, the oil state, will literally pay for blockchains “mines” energy because it goes back into the pocket of fossil fuel execs which then gives them a kickback.

Project 2025 is useful mostly in that a key problem Democratic campaigns have historically had is that when you tell people what Republicans actually want to do, they don’t believe you. The evil public list makes it a bit more concrete.

What’s frustrating about Project 2025 is that it is Trump Year 5: they started this in 2017 & those assholes they put in those NON-ELECTABLE positions are still there (fire DeJoy; STAT)… so this is no surprise if we’re paying attention to Trump’s presidency 😑
