One of the extremely underdiscussed risks is Trump utterly destroying healthcare in a way people already used to shitty care won’t believe

I get it now. This is rage bait, specifically targeted at Joe Biden. The rest of us are just collateral damage. The news is trying to kill the president, is what's happening, to usher in the president who cannot fucking wait to kill people who work for the news It all makes sense now!

I saw birth control pills over the counter in Costco last week. Renewables are the second biggest source of energy in the US. Don't tell me nothing good ever happens.

I guess expecting a bunch of people to show up and *do their job* for you but not get paid is right in line with the entire GOP/Project 2025 ethos.

I think giant university endowments are bad, but I also think just confiscating them is very illegal? If nothing else, most donors attach conditions to them, and if those conditions aren't fulfilled, they're entitled to get the money back.

I just want to know why every other train route gets a cool name? Borealis! Empire Builder! California Zephyr! Silver Meteor! WOLVERINE! while we in the Northeast, who use Amtrak more than anyone, get...The Northeast Regional.

I spend too much time thinking about how Sonia Sotomayor was in one of the very first classes at Princeton that admitted women, and how now she has to go to work every day with a guy who (aside from being just a general troglodyte) actively campaigned to prevent her from matriculating.

Is Biden a DSA leftist? No. But he is absolutely the most liberal president of my 50-year lifetime, and most of his “failures” are the result of either the centrist dems being the entire margin in the senate or our whackjob Supreme Court.

We went through this with Carter in 1980 and it resulted in us getting Bill Clinton, the “New Democrats” and a whole bunch of actual neoliberalism. Biden is the first president we’ve had since then that is unabashedly a fan of big government and how it can help people.

"What the report finds is that Biden held on to 94% of the people who said they would support him before the debate. For Trump, 86% of people who said they would support him before the debate said they would do so after the debate."

I don't know about imprisonment, but Singapore has a similar system - you have to pay for a permit to buy/own a car, and there's a hard cap on the number. When I went there for a wedding, the well-employed groomsman tasked with showing me around had to borrow the "family" car from his parents.

serious question: has anyone published a comprehensive explainer on the process steps required to a) replace biden on the ticket (with and against his will) b) hold a mini-primary at the convention c) get the winner of that primary on the ballot in all 50 states d) determine who takes the money pot

you don't understand how saying that dems are lying when the say they have no agency even in a situation where they literally do not have agency is just another iteration of expecting Dems to act by magic while expecting republicans to do nothing?

Once this whole thing is done with, we all need to have a very serious talk amongst ourselves about ageism because some of the folks on here who've REALY been into the discourse who would absolutely not survive a meeting with h.r. if they said these things about an elderly coworker.

one of the things that’s been crystal clear this year in particular is that the NYT as an institution never got over feeling like they were forced to fire james bennet and have been saying unambiguously that it will never happen again

Stop calling things “judeo-Christian” when you just mean “Christian” challenge, project 2025 edition. This one is particularly offensive given that the Jewish sabbath is an entirely different day than the Christian one.

I have met a few people in the course of my life who are more interested in “change” for the sake of change than any actual policy provisions, which means they always vote for the challenger, and don’t hold strong views on policy. I do not understand these people, but they exist.
