Stocked up earlier with loads of berries from Balhungie berry farm near us in Monifieth, Angus, Scotland. Have punnets of strawberries, raspberries and cherries. Plus we got in some extra thick cream and some Rodda's Cornish clotted cream. Yum.

I'm entering a new interactive fiction game in IFComp next month. Have had huge help from some wonderful playtesters helping me smooth the playing experience. Today my husband is playtesting for me. Am very nervous! He's played IF games since 1990s. I'm currently avoiding the study where he is. Eek!

Reading a 2000AD comics anthology, and ending up skipping 2 stories - the reduced page size in this reproduction is doing them no favours, especially re splotchifying the lettering frequently. But hey, a fab Judge Anderson story is next. Which feels almost Luther Arkwright like. Happy reader again!

Last week I read James Hogg's weird 1818 novel The Brownie of Bodsbeck, all to write ONE sentence which today I've cut from my conference paper so as to save time.
On the bright side, the novel surprised me by containing a musical score. How often can you say that?

Have you ever seen a box FULL of #Viking oval brooches?

In 2018, I had the immense privilege of being at an NMS viewing as part of our 'Vikings in Scotland: 20 Years On' event, which served as the precursor to our EUP book, The Viking Age in Scotland (eds. Horne, Pierce, Barrowman).

Just found out about a massive data leak at Twitter/X. I don't use it anymore but I keep my account alive so no one else can claim my username. I just changed my password and suggest others do too. Also use 2FA whenever you can.

Yup I'm mainly watching Sky, if watching the telly, and certainly for keeping an eye on their website. BBC Scotland was particularly slow on reporting one English count that Sky had reported 10 minutes earlier.

Looking ahead to this week, and a big task is get a too long in development academic journal paper out the door for peer review. Or at least virtually there! I think the illustrations issue may be a backlog one, but need to see if what I have is ok. I have illustrations (maps), but need to check ok.

I have just registered to enter IFComp 2024. Eek! Still to add cover art (I'm doing it) and obviously the final game file. But very excited. I will have the entry ready by mid August, after the current final round of playtesting. ifcomp.org

Really grateful to our ISP Zen and an Openreach engineer at 8am for a big speed boost to our home Internet. We finally switched from slow ADSL to fibre to the cabinet + VOIP for our long term landline number. Faster connections especially help my hardware/software engineer husband working from home.
