It takes a lot of labor and expertise that Congress simply doesn’t have to transform legislation into workable policy. Once upon a time I was involved in this process and I just can’t get my head around the absurd implications of this ruling.

Upon the release of the Supreme Court's Chevron decision, the FTC announced that its iconic sculpture would be revised. The man will now be portrayed as broken and bloody, while the horse actively destroys the building. Piles of manure will be spread across the sidewalk, making passage impossible.

I spend most of my time overseas so I haven't seen one yet. I suspect I'll be exposed when I visit my family in Houston later this summer. Then I can jeer in person!

I wonder if the drivers understand our intentions when they see us photograph their silly cars? Or do they think we’re impressed by their display of masculine virtues?

I rarely think of Rome but I do think of the Columbian exchange on a daily basis. I suppose they both share a penchant for colonialism and rapacious exploitation.

The irony is the salaries of congress critters and supreme court justices outstrips that of us more ordinary feds. They have less need but somehow greater corruption.

I remember all those times I had to decline an offer to buy me a cup of coffee, drink, or dinner at conferences when I was a federal grant manager. My colleagues and I would often pay out of pocket to attend conferences and sign up for professional memberships. The court is infuriating.

We adopted the capybara as our semi-official mascot at my tiny USDA agency about halfway through the Trump administration. They saw us through some rough times. Visitors wanted to know why they were on display all around. Why wouldn't they be?

I bet the Pentax will be available on the used market before too long if you can bear the wait.

Wearing a mask on public transit has improved my quality of life so much. This is so infuriating.

One afternoon over beers at the local watering hole he pulled out a pill bottle from his pocket and tipped a pile of baby brown recluse spiders into his hand. They scrambled around for a bit and then he scooped them back into the bottle! He assured us that they were sweet little critters.

I remember back in college going on a hike with a top notch spider researcher. Lots of pauses. What I found fascinating was that he identified spiders just from the structure of their webs!

It feels as if those Brunner novels like The Sheep Look Up and Stand on Zanzibar have just fallen off the cultural radar.

Google translate and the translation engine in Word do a fantastic job of translating Danish. I say this as someone who just can’t seem to find the time or will to learn Danish but have to work with Danish text on a daily basis.

John Moore, virologist/immunologist from Cornell Weill Med in NYC and I take the NYTimes to task for two opinion pieces on #COVID earlier this month. Both pieces are examples of "science opinion", where non-experts weigh in on topics beyond their ken. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Giving people access to greater resources means they have more resources. Poverty researchers demonstrate this obvious finding over and over and we still have trouble shifting US social policy!

So I found another article from Korea which compares the products to different chiles. The 3x spicy is hotter than a jalapeño but not much hotter. I'll be on the DTU campus where this ministry has offices to visit some food safety people on Friday and I
plan to give them a hard time!

Likely. An Italian friend who lives here told me the most serious squabble she ever had with her Danish boyfriend was after too many complaints about the blandness of the local cuisine. Fighting about food seems to be one of the less offensive ways we can express our nationalist sentiments.

There's a popular expression among bike fanatics that the appropriate number of bikes is n + 1 where n = the the number of bikes you already have. May I propose this as n + 1. I've been coveting one ever since I moved to Scandinavia.

Yes. I suspect it is pretty spicy, but probably not as spicy as some of the crazy things some friends and family might eat. Danish food can be pretty tasty. A good loaf of rye bread is magnificent. But, spicy or hot it is not by any stretch of the imagination!
