Cory Doctorow coined the term “enshittification:” a pattern in which online platforms trap us, then treat us more and more like commodities. He joins this season's final “How to Fix the Internet” episode to talk about breaking out of the downward spiral.

This is such an absurd crap. What's next, lock up Martinellis and Welch's (yes Welch's was originally sold as a NA wine alternative)? Paternalism is bad regardless of where that's coming from, and the government and politicians should better stay out of this.

Remember how the "retail theft crime wave" disappeared as soon as companies had to do their annual reports? That's because it's illegal to lie to shareholders.

the purpose of a system is not what IT SAYS IT DOES or what you want it to do but what it actually does.

A lot of people have advice on doomerism, nihilism and optimism. I'll say this: let it radicalize you. Your anger is a gift, feel it the way you want to feel it.

"It’s hard to worry about social justice when all I am worried about is my experience of God, my feeling the Spirit present in me, or my evolution to the next level of consciousness. If I believe that reality is consciousness then it’s easy to say that what I am not aware of doesn’t exist."

Pride BEGAN during a time of anti-sodomy laws. The first Pride was a riot against those laws. Pride is celebrated around the world in places where it is much more dangerous to be queer than here. Pride is not dependent on being ALLOWED to be who we are, it’s a promise that we WILL be no matter what

Section 5 of the FTC Act lets the agency clobber "deceptive acts" by companies. What could be more deceptive than replacing a human rep with a chatbot that can't stop "hallucinating" (AKA "lying")?

GEO mostly runs ICE detention centers and a handful of state prisons. Most houseless folks end up in county jails on misdemeanor charges. So I doubt there's a direct connection, but investors often trade stocks not always based on reason.

GEO Group is one of the biggest private prison companies in America and I just find it convenient that their stocks jumped 14% since homelessness was criminalized this week. Anyone taken a peek at SCOTUS’ investment portfolios lately?

Whenever I encounter one of those "Keep Prisons Single Sex" (Terfs) I notice that they never seem to critique this U.S. practice of allowing men to work in women's prisons as guards or any other roles directly interacting with female prisoners. But it's all transes fault, amirite? Priorities!
