Remember how the "retail theft crime wave" disappeared as soon as companies had to do their annual reports? That's because it's illegal to lie to shareholders.
AI is booming (if you're a pleb) but if you have money - Goldman Sachs will be honest with you instead web.archive.org/web/20240629...
While the next AI winter is coming, the current hype cycle could potentially last a couple more years yet. It is clear that investors do not understand gen AI, that a lot of people who should know better are vastly overselling its capabilities (or wishful thinking), and that FOMO is *sky high*.
As I repeat ad nauseam, "AI is the new NFT".

And yet for some goddamn reason my local grocery store still has a weird camera-covered trailer sat in the parking lot next to the curbside pickup spots yelling at me not to loiter while I wait for my groceries. It was put there to deter retail theft that NEVER HAPPENED and now they're keeping it 🤮
Wowie I can't believe the plagiarism machines people invented that can only produce highly derivative work that can't be legally owned by those "making" it can't translate into cash money. Its almost like its a pointless energy draining novelty not worth the hype or something...
"One exception, not that it helps above-board businesses? Criminals. Hackers are using AI to steal an untold amount of money, which has driven companies to spend more cash on cybersecurity measures." 🙄
Similar to how all the stories about the 2020 election being stolen from Trump fell apart when lawyers were at risk of disbarment if they made false legal filings…
