They need a Minister for Shiny Things to keep the media from chewing the furniture when they're bored.

All praise be to Paddington.

Interesting to see former Government Ministers on TV suddenly able to hear, comprehend, and clearly and fulsomely answer questions asked by interviewers. It's a miracle.

Whether the far right talks and dresses like Russell Brand or like Nigel Farage, it leads in only one direction: The persecution of minorities, scapegoating as a substitute for policy and the triumph of capital over humanity.

My son's 'band' (it's just him) has made a video for one of his songs and it's weirdly hypnotic - if you're in the mood for something trippy, he'd be very happy to get some views on it, thanking you

Admittedly I'm currently listening to Shania Twain on stage, but this sounds really good to me. Have you tried playing it back at 1.5x speed? Do it. 😀👍

Interesting that he (laughably, for now) immediately threatens anti-democratic retaliation by campaigning to abolish the license fee. 'Kneel or given power I will use it against you.'

Doubly odd as he'd be nothing without the assiduous fairness of the BBC.

Reminder that meritocracy was invented (by Toby Young’s dad of all people) as a satirical idea for a dystopian book back in the 1950s, and shouldn’t be used as an actual way of justifying calcified privilege and inequality.

State school children are taught that Santa brings presents for good kids and effort yields achievement, voting is effective and justice is blind. I wonder (not having partaken) how the private school history curriculum differs in arming our oligarchs' beneficiaries to thrive in the world as it is.

Timid measures of the kind Labour proposes won't stop the rise of a new oligarchy. Instead we need a political and economic programme of the kind that General MacArthur oversaw in Japan.

There’s an argument that the only reason to have government at all is to arrange collective opposition and alternatives to letting the very rich do what the hell they like (the natural state of our system). All that sewage in our water is at the most basic level what government is there to stop.

"...Farage has stressed he dislikes Putin and opposes the invasion of Ukraine... 'Somehow, I am made out to be a Putin apologist, which of course I’m not. What he’s done in Ukraine is reprehensible.'" Reprehensible and not an apologist, he'd just like a moment to argue in Putin's favour. *shrug*

I wondered what areas of Farage's expertise gave him the confidence to say this out loud. Then I realised it's basically what he did to the Conservative Party. 'Just give up on that slice. You don't need _that_ slice. You won't even notice when it's gone.'

There are a lot of reasons (some to do with the underlying condition of the UK, some to do with race) that Rishi Sunak’s lies land worse with the public than Boris Johnson, but one of them is that Johnson lies like someone who wants to fuck you, and Sunak lies like someone who wants you to fuck off.

As the commuter train approaches the suburban station the early summer evening tunes to a mellow amber rouge. The treeline shutters the sun to rapid insistent flickers which tap the closed eyes of the elder Rishi Sunak. He wakes. "What a strange dream." The train stops. He gathers his belongings.

If the beeb want to show a chart of interest rates in relation to mortgages they really ought to pick a timeframe more relevant than just the last 2 years. I fear that lots of people might not know that interest rates have been uncommonly low in the last mere 10+ years.
