Today, weโre releasing starter packs โ personalized invites that allow you to bring friends directly into your slice of Bluesky! ๐
Update to version 1.87 of the app or refresh desktop to create a starter pack. (It may take a moment for version 1.87 to appear in the iOS App/Google Play stores.)
With starter packs, recommend custom feeds and suggested users to your friends. Help people with similar interests find each other on Bluesky.
Create a starter pack by visiting the new tab on your profile!
I don't get the difference between a custom list and a starter pack. Isn't it the same thing, just packaged differently ? @jay.bsky.team@pfrazee.com@mackuba.eu
The new โintroduce bad actors to accounts to harassโ feature has launched. Jesus titty-fucking Christ how do you manage to lack *this* level of foresight? Itโs almost impressive.
Wow, this is... a feature almost literally tailor-made to make it even easier for brand new sock-puppet or brigading accounts to amplify targeting against specific users, and you can't even opt out of it.
@pfrazee.com - Could you please give someone a reality check?
How can you stop this being a targeted harassment list? Can people remove themselves from these starter packs? Can people prevent their accounts from being added to starter packs?
Yikes. Yes. You really really need a social media manager. Iโll do it. I donโt wanna. But I will. I have way too much experience and Iโm super autistic (extremely obsessed with fairness)
Iโd be more into doing community led promotion if the bloody iOS app didnโt arbitrarily rotate and resize when youโre trying to use it in landscape.
will these get moved off of our profile and into our settings in a future update?
i think its a brilliant update especially for on boarding, but i dont always want to promote it
possible bug, if you start clicking the follow button next to people in the list then happen to click the Follow All button (because you missed it the first time) it will toggle off all the individual ones you clicked.
Please give users the option to remove ourselves from starter packs. Sending a dm to someone using it as a harassment tool is pointless and relying on reports is a waste of everyone's time.
Hi, Iโm considering deactivating my account until you allow us to opt out of being able to be added to these starter packs.
I know Iโm just one person, but this feature will be used to harass marginalized people unless you let people opt out of this.
Same goes for mute/block lists
On day 1 I successfully created a Starter Pack, but today I was unable to create another one or edit an existing one, on Android and desktop.
When I click "Finish" or "Skip" on the third "Choose Feeds" screen, it interrupts me with the warning shown below.
Cool idea, frankly I'd have preferred group DMs before something like this. There are so many people holding back on moving here until group DMs are available.
You have made the error of assuming only nice people will use this feature.
You have to let people:
Remove themselves from a pack;
Opt out of being in packs in general;
As a minimum. Otherwise you built a harassment engine.
Wow, what new bespoke vectors for harassment y'all have wrought.
First order of business is creating a starter pack of all the BSky Devs called "People it's OK to bully"
Instead of releasing these dumbass gimmicks that will be pretty useless maybe spend more time removing the spam labels from Palestinian accounts you absolute clowns from hell
Some people won't want to be included, an influx of brand new accounts following you can sometimes cause issues. I see in the blog there is no way to opt out. Is this something that can be added in the future?
Hey, my friends want proper moderation, Nazis and pedophiles banned off the site not just slapped with a no consequences label, and proper safety and privacy controls like locked accounts, is there a starter pack for this out there?
This should be opt-in for each โfriendโ account someone wants to include in their โStarter Packโ. Seems like it could easily be abused if anyone can just add anyone elseโs account to their โStarter Packโ.
Unless there's a checkbox on our profiles to retroactively opt out of this, you guys just created an amazing tool for brigading accounts that anyone can easily abuse the hell out of.
