Just released a new YouTube video about why we're all still trapped on Twitter even as the platform continues to circle the toilet drain. (Yes, I know, the irony of posting that here...) www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-tU...
I feel like a lot of us haven't "left" twitter in terms of closing accounts, for fear of people just camping on our names there if we quit. Engagement is way down.
Tumblr is alive and well it just doesn't let you track users so it seems like nobody uses it. I'm not a brand so I don't need to stay on twitter. You don't know what the toggle does, it's not a nazi toggle; hate speech is TOS. It mutes images with hate symbols (e.g. reporting of charlottesville)
I had no choice but to leave Twitter. I live near Highland Park IL, and within 3 days of buying Twitter, Elon Musk was talking like the fascist trolls I saw during the Highland Park shooting.
Love the video, I still use twitter, but I try to post as little as possible. Really I just respond to a few people who aren't actively on here. Here is pretty nice. Less bustling city, more gated suburb, but I definitely like the slower pace here rather than 200 posts per hour on twitter.
"it would be so beneficial to New Zealand Mainstream Media & Local Advertisers to work with @bsky.app & sponsor a locally New Zealand Bluesky hosting service & just cut the companies formally known as Facebook & Twitter out of the New Zealand market."
I mean.. dude wanna spend his time doin stuff with mosquitoes.. who am I to kink shame? He's doin it to himself, not dragging society down with drama fit after drama fit.
Granted Blue Sky is wicked clunky, I'll give ya that. Not having gifs is quite sad.
One thing that you didn't explore (most likely due to lack of time/out of scope) is how many services on the internet are natural monopolies. You don't move to a social media unless there are people there but if you don't, there won't be people there.
Jack Dorsey didn't found Bluesky dude. For a guy who's critical of billionaires i really wish you'd done actual research before giving him credit.
It emerged from devs on Twitter.
Everyone needs to leave Twitter and take the pain until the vacuum is filled. We lived without it for a few thousand years, I think we can manage for a few more years as we migrate.
Let's hope that spiral can muster up enough of a slingshot to catapult Musk and X to Mars, as his rocket failures are not accelerating this urgent necessity. BTW, he and his father are active in procreating the proto-Martian species with around 15 or more kids between the. Aah, Bluesky... freedom.
I just watched it and had a blast! I deleted my Twitter account and switched to platforms like this one, but I can't really blame anyone who remains on Da Birb. It's where people are, unfortunately.
Threads had some of the best timing imaginable but wasted it by not having the right (or even a complete) product.
Bluesky isn't much now- it's basically just a drip tray for people who love Twitter but hate Nazis. But could grow into something, with enough time and the right hook to set it apart.
Interesting video.
I think that we’re never going to get anywhere unless there is compatibility and portability between social networks. I think is the goal the regulation you ask for.
Imagine if you could only call a Verizon phone if you had a Verizon phone. That’s what we have now—it sucks.
