I can say anecdotally from my coworkers, denialism is the most common in the old. I have heard quote "I don't believe in global warming, and even if I did, we can't do anything about it because of India and China." Which I suppose is a way to absolve guilt over their children/grandchildren.

Well, I guess we finally have the data to back it up. Denial really is the most common response to climate change on Twitter. Now the question remains: are they human or are they bots? π€

As I understand it, the court has no actual power to enforce any ruling it makes. It has no control of money, no control of armies, it has nothing but public belief in its legitimacy. When it is no longer a legitimate institution, does anyone really feel bound to abide by its rulings?

Okay so to be clear we are destroying power grids, the livelihoods of actual humans beings, and communication/research infrastructure for the sake of an algorithm that converts stolen data into unreliable stolen data and consistently loses millions of dollars. Just to be clear

I grew up during the Harper years. The idea of Poilievre having that kind of unchecked power that comes with a majority knowing the kind of neo-Con religious nut job he is, is enough to make my skin crawl. π

The Liberals donβt lean left enough for me with regard to organized labour or the environment but I feel like I only have imperfect options. Even a ranked ballot would at least make me feel like I wasnβt screaming into the wind. And I live in terror of majorities that wield absolute power.

I havenβt dug into the nuances of all the ridings unfortunately. Iβm just aware that by total number of votes Cons are a minority of voters yet they have formed majority governments in the past.

Itβs absolutely bonkers how the Conservatives are consistently small voting block in absolute number of voters yet can end up with a majority and wield 100% of the legislative power. Thanks to FPTP voting, weβre fucked unless we vote strategically to prevent another Conservative government.

Oh? I hadnβt heard about that, my feed has still been a lot of the debate and US Supreme Court decisions. Thatβs good news to hear though. It shocks me that people just forget Poilievre is a bigot and literally said so in the 00βs when they legalized gay marriage here.

I mean, the forecasts of Poilievre getting a super majority in the next election are not making Canada look so bright, either. We arenβt quite as bad for a two party system as the US. The Cons are a minority of voters but the Liberal/NDP share the Left votes so they can grab a majority of seats π

I know. Itβs just as bad because it still lies on someoneβs behalf. A bunk paper citing a legitimate individualβs name on a paper or study that doesnβt exist erodes that personβs credibility. The only solution is an absolute ban on any part of a paper being from genAI.

Reminds me of law students using chatGPT only for it to cite court cases that donβt even exist. Weβre surrendering to the dissolution of the body of human knowledge. We need bans on this, and AI companies need to stop lying about what LLM even do.

Recently, I was peer reviewing a paper, and it cited one of my papers. Except... it wasn't anything I had written. The title sounds like something I'd write. It included coauthors I work with, and was in a journal I've published in. But it wasn't real. AI is not good for science.

The strategy that I think is more pragmatic/likely is theyβre making shows that can be used as a tax write-off. Iβm less tinfoil hat but it seems to me that making expensive but mediocre shows or films means they can get bigger write-offs. Look at what happened to Batgirl.

The owner class get to benefit from advances in technology at every level, boosts to productivity don't benefit the working class. Without unions we have no leverage to take back the value our labour creates. Parasites called 'shareholders' syphon more wealth for themselves while workers struggle.
