Okay so to be clear we are destroying power grids, the livelihoods of actual humans beings, and communication/research infrastructure for the sake of an algorithm that converts stolen data into unreliable stolen data and consistently loses millions of dollars. Just to be clear

I grew up during the Harper years. The idea of Poilievre having that kind of unchecked power that comes with a majority knowing the kind of neo-Con religious nut job he is, is enough to make my skin crawl. 😖

The Liberals don’t lean left enough for me with regard to organized labour or the environment but I feel like I only have imperfect options. Even a ranked ballot would at least make me feel like I wasn’t screaming into the wind. And I live in terror of majorities that wield absolute power.

I haven’t dug into the nuances of all the ridings unfortunately. I’m just aware that by total number of votes Cons are a minority of voters yet they have formed majority governments in the past.

It’s absolutely bonkers how the Conservatives are consistently small voting block in absolute number of voters yet can end up with a majority and wield 100% of the legislative power. Thanks to FPTP voting, we’re fucked unless we vote strategically to prevent another Conservative government.

Oh? I hadn’t heard about that, my feed has still been a lot of the debate and US Supreme Court decisions. That’s good news to hear though. It shocks me that people just forget Poilievre is a bigot and literally said so in the 00’s when they legalized gay marriage here.

I mean, the forecasts of Poilievre getting a super majority in the next election are not making Canada look so bright, either. We aren’t quite as bad for a two party system as the US. The Cons are a minority of voters but the Liberal/NDP share the Left votes so they can grab a majority of seats 😓

I know. It’s just as bad because it still lies on someone’s behalf. A bunk paper citing a legitimate individual’s name on a paper or study that doesn’t exist erodes that person’s credibility. The only solution is an absolute ban on any part of a paper being from genAI.

Bans on using AI to create works in other people’s names. This is as bad as Deepfakes, it harms trust in scientists, public figures

Reminds me of law students using chatGPT only for it to cite court cases that don’t even exist. We’re surrendering to the dissolution of the body of human knowledge. We need bans on this, and AI companies need to stop lying about what LLM even do.
